OICWA Committees
To promote the well-being of American Indian children and their families, the Oklahoma Indian Child
Welfare Association, Inc.
(OICWA) relies on the dedication and efforts of its members. Through
Standing and Special Committees, members participate in various activities to address areas of interest
and issues of concern that affect Indian children, families, and tribes. Committee members are appointed by
the Association. Any member of OICWA may request to serve on a Committee. Volunteers outside OICWA
may also be appointed to a Committee.

Standing and Special Committees meet on the day preceding the Association's Regular Quarterly meeting.

Contact OICWA. Committees are established in accordance with Article VIII of the Bylaws of OICWA.
The Executive Committee is comprised of the Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and
Treasurer) of the Association and one (1) member at large from the general membership and transacts
routine business as necessary between meetings of the Association. The Executive Committee advises and
assists the Secretary with duties and responsibilities of the Secretary’s Office; monitors and reviews matters
of corporate compliance with State Corporation law and formulates and presents recommendations to the
Association as necessary concerning the Articles of Incorporation. The Executive Committee advises and
assists the Treasurer with duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer’s Office, monitors and reviews fund
raising activities and other finance-related matters of the Association and formulates and presents related
recommendations to the Association and assists with implementation upon approval.

The
Public Relations Committee monitors and reviews public relations activities of the Association and
formulates and presents public relations program recommendations to the Association and assists with
implementation upon approval.

The
Legislation Committee monitors and reviews activities of the Association in relation to compliance
with Bylaws, coordinates and supervises matters of the Association relating to membership, and formulates
and presents related recommendations to the Association and assists with implementation upon approval.
The Legislative Committee also monitors and reviews legal and legislative developments which relate to the
Association interests, derives assessments of legal and legislative development impacting upon Association
interests, and formulates and presents related recommendations to the Association and assists with
implementation upon approval.

The
Nominating Committee plans and conducts regular and special elections of the Association, monitors
and reviews election processes of the Association, and formulates and presents related recommendations of
the Association and assists with implementation upon approval.

The
Training Committee monitors and reviews Indian Child Welfare issues and concerns in relation to
training needs within the Association and outside the Association as practical and formulates and presents
related recommendations to the Association and assists with implementation upon approval.

The
Substitute Care Committee monitors and reviews issues and concerns of substitute care such as
foster care, relative placement, adoption, etc., as they relate to the Association and formulates and presents
related recommendations to the Association and assists with implementation upon approval.

Special Projects Committees are established at the discretion of the Association to address particular items
of interest and concern which may not be within the scope of activity engaged by a standing committee and
shall be temporary in nature.
